Review:
Joachim Spieth shows that dub techno is an integral part of the German psyche on Sensualized. "Sensual" contains all those elements that Chain Reaction and Basic Channel pioneered - dubby beats, cavernous chords and epic basslines, but it's testament to Spieth's skills that it doesn't sound staid. The remixers also do a fine job of reshaping "Sensual". Jamal Moulay's take features harder beats and a more upfront, rolling groove, while Reggy van Oers pushes in the opposite direction, with dreamy chords unravelling over a languid groove. Best of all though is Brendon Moeller's take, where an eerie organ riff and swelling chords combine for an arrangement that's very much in the spirit of Maurizio.

It’s almost unbelievable, but Affin is 100 releases old! 4 years ago DJ & Producer Joachim Spieth launched the label as an imprint for esteemed producer friends and also for talented newcomers to reflect the broad scope of current techno and house music for exciting takes on the sound of clubland.
“Affin 100” really marks a watershed for the label and this jubilee is celebrated with a special compilation, featuring 21 brand new, exclusive tracks by label’s residents and recent signings like:

Affin founder Joachim Spieth has mixed the next edition of his label's compilation series, Selected 7.
Through both his productions and his label, Spieth has long championed a modern, left-field take on house and techno. In his early days he was a staple of Cologne's Kompakt label, and opened his own imprint in 2007. Since then Affin has churned out digital EPs at a considerably brisk pace, with a total of 14 releases in its first year alone. In the meantime, Spieth has put together a new Selected compilation every six months or so–the last one just came out in December. Much like its predecessors, Selected 7 shows Spieth surveying his label's most recent output, mixing up recent tunes by Deepchild, Jamal Moulay and Mark Broom among others. The collection is out digitally next month.

Run by DJ-cum-producer Joachim Spieth, house and techno label Affin was one of the first labels to make the brave decisions to launch solely digitally back in 2007. Now in 2010, amongst the announcement that Technics 1200 will no longer be produced and the fact that independent records stores are all but vanished, the decision to offer downloads only no longer seems a cheap gimmick, but a well thought-out decision. Certainly the downside to this new business model is that the market place has become awash with mediocre labels offering dull uninspired tracks, but when the upside is you’ve got labels like Affin, whose entire back catalogue you can download at the click of a button, things don’t seem quite as unhealthy as the nay-sayers would have you believe.
